A thematic international media forum was held in Ashgabat

Today, the International Media Forum “Turkmen Land – the Center of Ancient Civilizations” was held at the capital’s “Yyldyz” hotel, timed to coincide with the celebrations marking the announcement of the city of Anau as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024 and the 300th anniversary of the birth of Magtymguly Fragi.

The event participants included leaders and representatives of domestic media, leading news agencies, television and radio companies, film associations, Internet portals, newspapers and magazines from Great Britain, Hungary, ATU Gagauzia, Moldova, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Russia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and as well as such authoritative structures as the International Organization of Turkic Culture - TURKSOY, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Radio and Television Union of the Islamic Cooperation Organization, the Union of News Agencies of the IOS member countries (UNA). Among the delegates are professors from the Canadian University “HEC Montreal” and the University of Bahcesehir (Turkey).

As noted at the opening of the forum, the constantly increasing foreign policy activity of the Turkmen state, which was the result of the deeply thought-out and clearly verified course laid down by the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to expand constructive and fruitful partnerships with all countries of the world, now successfully implemented by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, in the modern era is clearly manifested in the field of media.

For our country, which, under the leadership of the head of state, is strengthening its presence on international platforms, including media, integrating into the common information space, the current meeting is another significant step in the development of professional ties through humanitarian cooperation of Turkmenistan with all interested parties.

Today’s forum is especially relevant in terms of solving the tasks put forward by the President of Turkmenistan to the domestic media to more actively promote in the world prompt and reliable information about our country, the transformations taking place in it, successes and achievements. At the same time, the importance of the event was noted in the context of studying the best world experience, developing new formats and standards for broadcasting, printing, and electronic press.

As emphasized, thanks to the innovative ideas of the head of Turkmenistan, colossal transformations are taking place in our country and major international events are being held that attract the attention of the world community, which allows us to intensify cooperation with foreign media, create joint information products and exchange content.

Particular emphasis was placed on the symbolism of organizing a media forum on the days when events begin on the occasion of the announcement by the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) of the city of Anau as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024, the year of widespread celebration both in our country and abroad of the 300th anniversary the great thinker of the East, the Turkmen classical poet Magtymguly Fragi. In addition, the current meeting coincided with the adoption on March 21 of this year at the 63rd plenary meeting of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan of the Resolution “2025 – International Year of Peace and Trust”.

The speeches also noted that an event of great importance was the publication on the eve of the current events of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s book “Änew – müňýyllyklardan gözbaş alýan medeniýet”, which is of great importance in the widespread popularization of the glorious history and rich cultural heritage of our people. At the same time, it was emphasized that the new work of the head of state talks about the role of Anau in the history of universal civilization, the national spiritual values of the Turkmens, which serve the rapprochement and mutual enrichment of peoples and cultures.

During the forum, guests were shown a video telling about the history and unique heritage of Turkmenistan.

Our country is rightfully considered the center of ancient archaeological cultures, including Anau, Dzheitun, Margiana, which gave the world high examples of art, architecture, and dozens of crafts. Progressive civilizations were born here, influencing not only Turkic-speaking countries, but also states around the world, which contributed to the interpenetration of cultures and had a huge impact on the formation of universal spiritual values. That is why the unique historical and architectural monuments of Turkmenistan that have survived to this day are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
